Although tonight's NHL Awards in Las Vegas were highlighted by the likes of Corey Perry, Tim Thomas and, everyone's favourite pair, the Sedin twins, some notable hardware went on to both a current King and a former one.

Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown was honoured tonight as the winner of the NHL Foundation Player Award in recognition of the captain's extensive charity and volunteer work. As a reward, the NHL will make a $25,000 donation to the foundation, which was established by both Brown and his wife, Nicole.

In other news, former King and current Philadelphia Flyers forward Ian Laperrier won the Bill Masterton Award as he was honoured for his perseverance. Blocking a shot with his face in the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs, Laperriere suffered a concussion and a fractured orbital bone, which forced him to miss the entire 2010-11 season.

Despite his injuries, Laperriere has served in the Flyers organization in a few capacities, including mentoring the younger players in the organization.

Congratulations to both Dustin Brown and Ian Laperriere on their awards and recognition tonight. They are both very well-deserved honours.
