EDMONTON – Team USA’s opening game at the World Juniors wasn’t even close. The Americans dominated from start to finish as they easily beat Denmark in an 11-3 rout.


The most notable performances came from Charlie Coyle and David Zucker. Coyle got a hat-trick while Zucker had a four-point outing en route to the convincing win. Three other Americans had two points each with one of those players being Los Angeles Kings’ prospect Derek Forbort, who helped out with a couple of assists.


In this his second year with the US junior team, Forbort earned a +2 rating to along with a shot on goal to go along with his assists. As for Los Angeles’ other prospect for Team USA, Kevin Gravel had a good game. Despite not recording any points, the WJC rookie earned a +2 rating.


The Americans hope to continue their momentum as they next play Finland, who lost 8-1 today to Canada. That game will be on Wednesday at 12:30pm PST (3:30pm EST).
