While the World Junior Championship got under way on this side of the Atlantic, the Spengler Cup was commencing on the other side as in Davos, Switzerland, Team Canada, coached by former Los Angeles Kings coach Marc Crawford, opened the tournament with a convincing 7-1 win over HC Vitkovice Steel of the Czech Republic.


Earlier in the day, it was Dinamo Riga of Latvia taking care of the Kloten Flyers of Switzerland by a score of 9-2. Although he only played 29 games for the Kings in 2006-07, Jamie Lundmark plays for Dinamo Riga.


The tournament continues tomorrow and wraps up on New Year's Eve.
