Los Angeles Kings vs. Chicago Blackhawks Preview; Western Final, Game 3
Previewing the Los Angeles Kings’ 2012-13 season: West Final, Game 3 vs. Chicago; June 4/13, 6pm PST (9pm EST)
After dropping both games in Chicago, the Los Angeles Kings return home for Game 3 where they hope their dominant record at Staples Center in these playoff will serve as an advantage and get back into this series.
The situation, while not quite dire, is not looking very promising for the Kings. But the silver-and-black have been down this road before and for Kings fans, that enough is a reason to believe that their team, while down, is far from out.
In the first round of these playoffs against the St. Louis Blues, the Kings returned home after dropping Games 1 and 2 in heartbreaking fashion. But just when everyone had them on the ropes, the defending champs woke up winning four-straight to take the series in six games. Of course, as uplifting as that series victory was, the Chicago Blackhawks are a different beast.
With all due respect to the Blues, the Hawks have won a Cup in 2010 so they know what how it is to play this late into the year. Of course, the Kings know that as well. While Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown and Matt Greene all appear to be hurt, each one of them are braving it like warriors and doing what they can to give their team a shot at securing their second-straight Stanley Cup Finals berth.
Jonathan Quick was great in a losing battle in Game 1 on Saturday but was not quite as top-notch the following night in Game 2 as the Kings lost 4-2. Aside from Justin Williams and Jeff Carter, however, most of the Kings have lacked the urgency needed to win this late in this season. But maybe some home-cooking is just what the doctor ordered. It happened against St. Louis so despite the differences, why not against Chicago as well?
There don’t appear to be any changes for Los Angeles heading into Game 3 but if ever there was a must-win for the Kings, it would apply to tonight’s contest.
Backed by the Staples Faithful, the Kings enter Game 3 will one goal in mind: to turn the West Final into a meaningful series.
Enjoy the game!
