Previewing the Los Angeles Kings' 2013-14 season:

Game 28 vs. St. Louis

December 2, 2013

7:30pm PST (10:30pm EST)

So far this season, the newly-formatted Central Division looks primed to take a serious run at the Stanley Cup this coming spring. With the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks continue to roll and the new-look Colorado Avalanche turning heads, very little has been said about the St. Louis Blues who are off to a roaring 18-4-3 start. On Monday night, the Los Angeles Kings will find out first-hand just how good the Blues are as they host them at Staples Center.

Despite the impressive start, however, the Blues have not fared well against the Kings in recent memory whether it’s in Los Angeles or the Gateway City.

Since October 18, 2011, the Kings are 6-1-0 against St. Louis and have won four-straight against their rivals from Missouri dating back to March 22, 2012.

While they did see their 11-game point streak end in unpleasant fashion on Saturday night, the Kings are 7-1-4 in their last 12 outings backed by goaltender Ben Scrivens who has been nothing short of tremendous in relief of the injured Jonathan Quick. The Professor will be in for a tough test on Monday but if the last few weeks were any indication, No. 54 should fare just fine.

In addition to Scrivens’s play, Los Angeles’s defense has been top-notch as has their penalty kill. Their offense, however, not so much. In their last five contests, the Kings were only able to muster six goals. Hopefully Monday will turn the tide up front for the silver-and-black.

While the Kings are looking for a better effort on Monday, the same can be said for the Blues who are coming off a 6-3 loss in San Jose on Friday.

After sweeping the season series last year, the Kings are hoping for the same as Monday will mark the first of three meetings between them and the Blues.

Can they draw first blood and get back on the winning track? We’ll see.

Enjoy the game!
