Previewing the Los Angeles Kings' 2013-14 season:

Game 39 @ Nashville

December 28, 2013

5pm PST (8pm EST)

With the Christmas break over, the Los Angeles Kings are back to work as they begin to close out both 2013 and the first half of the season starting on Saturday when they visit Nashville to take on the Predators.

This will be the third and final meeting between the Kings and Preds with the series tied at a game apiece. The silver-and-black won the first contest in Nashville by a 2-1 shootout score back on October 17 while the Preds won 4-3 at Staples Center on November 2, Los Angeles’s last regulation loss until November 30.

En route to said win, the Preds received a significant amount of help from Patric Hornqvist who recorded three assists and veteran David Legwand who scored a pair of goals including the game-winner with less than four minutes to go in regulation.

But the Predators will have to get used to seeing a new netminder tending the Los Angeles goal as Jonathan Quick, who played in both meetings with Nashville thus far, is still recuperating from his groin injury.

At 16-17-4, the Predators aren’t doing as well as they hoped they would. At 3-6-1 in their last 10 and 8-8-3 on home ice this season, the place they call “Smashville” doesn’t exactly invoke fear in opposing teams. Then again, the Kings haven’t done as well against clubs lower than them in the standings. Of their nine regulation losses so far, the Kings have lost four of those against teams currently out of the playoff picture. The silver-and-black hope to discontinue that trend.

Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter and Dwight King were all on hot streaks before the Christmas break as was goaltender Martin Jones despite losing his first-career game last game in Dallas. The Kings certainly hope the break didn’t make the aforementioned rusty as they hope to enter 2014 with an abundance of momentum.

The Los Angeles Kings are back to business on Saturday night as they hope to start off on the right foot.

Enjoy the game!
