Previewing the Los Angeles Kings' 2013-14 season:

Game 55 @ Phoenix

January 28, 2014

6pm PST (9pm EST)

They ended their four-game slide on Monday night, shutting out the streaking San Jose Sharks thanks to Jonathan Quick and his third shutout of the season. But there’s no time for rest as the Los Angeles Kings are right back at it on Tuesday when they travel to Arena to take on the Phoenix Coyotes.

Tuesday evening will mark the third of five meetings between these bitter rivals with both teams winning a game apiece with the home team winning on both occasions. But the Kings and Coyotes haven’t played each other since October 29. On that night, the Kings fell 3-1 in Glendale thanks to a game-winning goal scored by the always-popular Shane Doan. But while the Kings do sit eight points ahead of the Desert Dogs, they could certainly an extra two points before heading back to Staples Center on Thursday.

While Los Angeles’s 3-6-1 mark in their last 10 doesn’t look promising, Phoenix’s record of 4-5-1 over that span isn’t much better. But the Coyotes did have a solid outing en route to their win over the Kings back on October 29. In that game, Jarret Stoll scored the lone goal late, spoiling Mike smith’s shutout bid. But Stoll hasn’t quite been the same offensively (much like most of his team) as he has registered just one assist in his last nine outings. Hopefully a date in Glendale can give No. 28 the offensive spark he needs. Furthermore, here’s hoping that’s the case for many of the guys who don the silver-and-black.

It’s been too long since these two rivals met but despite that, there still isn’t any love lost.

Tuesday’s matchup should prove to be another in the series of Kings-Coyotes intense feud and hopefully, another two points for the visiting Kings.

Enjoy the game!
