Previewing the Los Angeles Kings' 2011-12 season:
Game 78 @ Edmonton
March 30, 2012
6:30pm PST (9:30pm EST)
The Los Angeles Kings continue their four-game road trip as they pay a visit to Edmonton to take on the Oilers for the third of four meetings between the clubs this season. While the Kings hope to build on their march to the playoffs, the Oilers are playing for pride as they’ve been officially eliminated from playoff contention.
Now is as good a time as any for the Kings to reverse their fortunes against their rivals from northern Alberta. Edmonton won both previous meetings this season with Los Angeles (a 3-0 win on November 3 and in Los Angeles and a 2-1 OT win in Edmonton on January 15). After tonight’s game, the two teams will have to regroup as they will meet again on Monday night in Los Angeles.
The Oilers are 5-2-3 in their last ten and although they’ve been officially eliminated from the playoffs, don’t expect the Kings to take them lightly. Nay, the Kings cannot afford to do so and part of that is because of how flat they were the last time they were in Edmonton in January, which was one of their most futile showings of the season.
There’s plenty of playoff implication heading into tonight’s game for Los Angeles. With 88 points, the Kings are tied for 8th but just one point behind the Phoenix Coyotes and Dallas Stars for the division lead, a position that would put them into 3rd in the West.
Can the Kings build on their win in Calgary and continue to rise in the standings? Let’s hope so.
Enjoy the game!
